HOLISTIC SWEDISH MASSAGE Otherwise known as 'Therapeutic Body Massage'. The practice of massage dates back to prehistoric times, with origins in India, China, Japan, Greece and Rome. The word 'therapeutic' is defined as relating to the treatment of a disorder or disease. The word 'massage' means to press gently kneading, rubbing or friction, promoting circulation, suppleness and relaxation. Swedish Massage techniques were developed and evolved from the work of a Swedish physiologist called Per Henrik Ling (1776-1839). The stones used for this therapy are known as basalt stones, they are a product from erupted volcanos. Volunteer Work On a yearly basis I volunteer as a Sports Therapists taking part in charity events for Breast Cancer Awareness and the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
In 2006, I was part of a team of Sports Therapists participating in treating sponsored walkers who raised money for their charitable organizations. The specific applications used in sports massage and sports injury management helped the walkers to achieve their aim in raising funds for reseach.
The Aviva weekend to Breakthrough in Breast Cancer took place in London where 1400 people took part in a 26 mile sponsored walk and raised £4 million.
The Multiple Sclerosis Society's Bigfoot event was held in the Cotswold over 2 days. Participants walked a distance of 31 miles with a target of raising £200,000. The overall total raised for the MS Society in 2006 was £2.2 million.
